  • orientation programme

    The Department of Social Work organised a five-days orientation program from 30th August 2024 - 5th September 2024, to orient the newly enrolled students of B.A (Hons.) Social Work to their academic discipline and field work essential requirements. A number of field practitioners, experts and academicians were invited to give invaluable opportunity to students to interact with experts and learn from their experiences. The orientation programme focused on hands-on training, simulation exercises and preparing programme media for masses. The esteemed guests and resource persons included: Prof. Sanjoy Roy, Head, Department of Social Work, University of Delhi, Ms. Kalyani, Chairperson Action India NGO, Ms. Rajni, Programme Manager at Katha NGO, Ms. Mahduraj, Entrepreneur and Mr. Dinesh, Art and craft Expert. The students were taken to Aanchal Charitable Trust,Vaishali for an exposure to field realities and working with special children.

  • National social work week

    The Department of Social Work at Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College proudly celebrated the 5th National Social Work Week on the 20th of August, 2024. The theme of the event was “School Social Work: Opportunities and Challenges”. This event was an opportunity to highlight the critical role of school social work, emphasizing both the opportunities and challenges faced by social workers in educational settings. The celebration was marked by a series of events designed to engage students and foster awareness on pressing social issues, particularly those affecting children and society at large.

     

    The events organized as part of this celebration effectively highlighted the importance of school social work and encouraged students to think critically about social issues. The creativity and passion displayed by the participants were commendable, and the Department looks forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come.

    The students reflected their expressions through a series of competitive activities including “Poster-making, “Slogan Writing” and “quiz competition”. The winners were:

  • Inclusive mega Job fair

    The Department organised an inclusive job fair on 30th August 2024 in collaboration with Samarthanam Trust for Disabled supported by Barclays. Prof. Rajkishore Sharma, Research Dean from DU presided over the function as chief guest, other guests included Mr. Satish K, Placement Head Pan India Samarthanam Trust and Mr. Shivram Deshpande, operation Head Samarthanam Trust, Mr.Mohammed Al-Herbish  (Managing Director), Mr.Sabyasachi Dasmohapatra (Vice president, Public Affairs), Mr.Rajat Kumar (Manager, Public Affairs), Ms.Reetuparna Dutta (Public Affairs Specialist) from Aramco. The company donated 9 motorized wheelchair to differently abled persons.  A total of 371 prospective candidates appeared in the Job fair for the interview, 117 candidates were shortlisted on the spot. The job fair brought 23 companies together to offer job opportunities in various fields based on skill set and experience of the candidates.

  • National Consultation on Bharatiya Models of Community Development

    National Consultation on "Bharatiya Models of Community Development" was held on 15th October, 2024 in the auditorium of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College. The event was jointly organized by Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, University of Delhi and KKM College, Sido Kanhi Murmu University, Dumka. The consultation focused on exploring indigenous approaches to community development. Prof Pankaj Tyagi, Chairperson of the college, welcomed all distinguished guests. Prof Sada Nand Prasad, Principal, highlighted the significance of the event and introduced its relevance in contemporary times. Prof Bishnu Mohan Dash, Convener of the consultation, elaborated on the objectives of the gathering, stressing the importance of decolonizing social work education. Distinguished guests, including Prof Neera Agnimitra, Chair of the International Relations Committee, Prof Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, and Dr Yugal Jha, Principal of KKM College participated and shared valuable insights. The keynote address was delivered by Mr Shankaranand BR, National Secretary of Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, who urged for a revival of indigenous knowledge to better address India’s unique socio-cultural realities. The session was presided over by Prof Girishwar Misra, who was the former Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya. He stressed the philosophical foundations of community development that are rooted in Indian traditions. This session was coordinated by Mr Kumar Satyam, who is also the Co-convener of the National Consultation. A significant part of the consultation was the scientific session, where experts delved into various facets of Bharatiya community development. Speakers like Dr Pramod Kumar from Dayal Singh College, Prof RR Patil from Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof Jagadish Jadhav, Central University of Rajasthan, Prof Navin Kumar, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College and Prof Arvind Kumar Mirsha, Jawaharlal Nehru University addressed in this session and critiqued the limitations of Western models in addressing India's diverse challenges. This session was chaired by Prof. Pamela Singla from Delhi University, co-chaired by Prof. Ushvinder Kaur Popli from Jamia Millia Islamia, and coordinated by Prof Tushti Bharadwaj. The valedictory session was marked by reflective discussions on the practical implications of the ideas shared during the day. Senior journalist Mr Siddheshwar Shukla provided an insightful overview of community development challenges. Prof AK Bhagi, President of DUTA, and Mr Brijesh Kuntal, Founder-Director of Bharat Bhakti Foundation, underlined the importance of documenting and promoting successful indigenous models. They emphasized the potential of such models to inspire grassroots development efforts. The consultation’s outcomes were both inspiring and actionable. The event was attended by numerous individuals, such as students, teachers, and non-teaching staff from the college. The college successfully organized this event with academic collaboration with KKM College, Jharkhand.

  • First Aid training programme

    The Department organized a First Aid Training Program on 24th September, 2024 in association with Indian Oil to equip students with essential lifesaving skills. Mr. Gaurav Gupta, Manager at Indian Oil and Dr. Chandradeep Chandra conducted a live demonstration on CPR techniques, providing practical insights into handling cardiac emergencies.

  • Exposure visit to NHRC

    The students were taken to a daylong exposure visit to National Commission on Human Rights (NHRC), New Delhi on 6th November 2024 for expert discussion about the role of NHRC in India. Students learnt the process of filing a complaint with NHRC and learnt the execution process through case examples from the experts.

  • Promoting Mental Health Awareness among Students

    The Department of Social Work at Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College organized an insightful session on ‘Promoting Mental Health Awareness among Students’ on 6th December 2024. The session aimed to foster awareness about mental health, its importance, and the need for timely intervention among students. The session was graced by the presence of Ms. Niharika Dogra, a renowned Counselling Psychologist, Rehabilitation and Carrer Counsellor, who conducted an engaging and interactive session.

    Ms. Dogra began by emphasizing the significance of mental health in shaping an individual’s overall well-being and academic performance. She highlighted the stigma often associated with mental health issues and encouraged students to view mental health as an integral aspect of their lives, akin to physical health. During the session, Ms. Dogra introduced a comprehensive Mental Health Checklist, which served as a practical tool for students to assess their mental well-being. She elaborated on the various indicators that signify when professional help might be necessary and explained the process of seeking assistance from mental health professionals.

    The discussion also covered common mental health challenges faced by students, such as stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout. Ms. Dogra provided actionable strategies to manage these issues, including mindfulness techniques, time management skills, and the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

    The session concluded with an interactive Question & Answer segment, where students actively participated by sharing their concerns and seeking guidance. Ms. Dogra addressed a range of queries, including how to support friends struggling with mental health issues, ways to overcome exam-related anxiety, and tips for managing social pressures.

    This session not only enhanced students' understanding of mental health but also empowered them to prioritize their mental well-being, aligning with the department's commitment to holistic student development. In conclusion, the session left students with a deeper understanding of mental health and practical tools to manage their well-being. It reinforced the importance of seeking help when needed and encouraged open conversations around mental health.

  • National Seminar on networking and community building

    The Department of Social Work has conducted a National Seminar on “Networking and Community Building” on 6th March 2025, Thursday in the college campus. The seminar is a forum which aimed at bringing together all our esteemed Field Work agencies to demonstrate their exemplary work and strengthen networking. The seminar deliberated upon the strategies for community building and related social work interventions.

    The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation and proved to be a confluence of thought-provoking discussions and productive networking opportunities. ​ It conducted a series of engaging and insightful activities throughout the day. The seminar commenced with student-centric networking activities and open visits to Information, Education, and Communication counters fostering interaction and knowledge sharing among participants. This was followed by a lamp-lighting ceremony and a welcome address by the Principal of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar College  setting a warm and auspicious tone for the event.

    The technical session titled "Field Work Realities – Challenges and Expectations" took place from 11:40 AM to 12:40 PM, featuring a panel discussion with representatives from 24 participating NGOs who shared critical insights into fieldwork supervision and collaboration, Followed by MoU signing between Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, University of Delhi and various NGO partners from Delhi and other states as well. Another technical session  Networking and Community building: Scope and approaches witnessed acadmic discussion from experts from Univeristies. 

    The session was expertly coordinated by Prof. Ravinder Singh, with Prof. Sushma Batra as the special guest and Prof. Beena Antony Reji (Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Delhi University), Prof. Archana Kaushik (Delhi School of Social Work, Delhi University), and Prof. Neena Pandey (Delhi School of Social Work, Delhi University) serving as resource persons.

    A total of 24 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) registered for the seminar, in addition to 2 educational institutions. There was an overwhelming response with 302 participants registered, reflecting the relevance of the seminar’s theme.

  • Workshop on Palliative care

    Department organized a workshop on Palliative Care on 21st March 2025. Ms. Anamika from CanSupport interacted with the students and briefed them about the field of palliative care and the role of counsellors in palliative care. Students also learnt about the nature of activities Cansupport offer to the patients with cancer and their families.

  • Session on Drug abuse prevention

    The Department of Social Work at Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, in collaboration with the Imperial Development Society, organized an informative and interactive session on 'Drug Abuse Prevention' on 28th March, 2025. The session was conducted by Mr. Narender Sindhi, a renowned social work practitioner, trainer, and researcher based in New Delhi. The session aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of drug abuse, its causes, its impact on individuals and society, and various prevention strategies.

    The session commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Tushti Bhardwaj, Teacher Incharge of the Department of Social Work, who warmly greeted the resource person and the students of the college. Dr. Anjali Suman, the Convenor of the session, played a key role in organizing and coordinating the event.

    Mr. Sindhi conducted the session using a structured approach that included a PowerPoint presentation, engaging activities, and an interactive discussion with students. The session began with an insightful presentation explaining the various types of drugs, factors leading to substance abuse, and the psychological and social reasons that contribute to addiction. He elaborated on the short-term and long-term consequences of drug abuse, including health deterioration, social isolation, financial burden, and legal implications. The discussion further focused on preventive measures such as awareness campaigns, community support systems, family involvement, and the role of educational institutions in preventing substance abuse among youth.

    The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating in activities designed to highlight the risks associated with drug abuse. A Q&A session was conducted, where students raised various queries about addiction recovery, government policies, and support mechanisms for affected individuals. Mr. Sindhi provided valuable insights and practical solutions to their concerns. At the end of the session, students were awarded certificates of participation as recognition of their engagement and interest in the topic.

    The session proved to be highly informative and engaging, equipping students with essential knowledge on drug abuse prevention. The Department of Social Work, along with the Imperial Development Society, expressed their gratitude to Mr. Narender Sindhi for his valuable contribution. The session successfully created awareness and motivated students to play an active role in combating drug abuse within their communities.

  • Internship programme
