Gender Sensitization and Women Development Committee (GSC–WDC)
Introduction
The Gender Sensitization and Women Development Committee (GSC–WDC) of BRA College functions as a proactive institutional mechanism committed to promoting gender equity, inclusivity, safety, and holistic development of women within the college community. The committee works towards creating a campus environment that is respectful, secure, and sensitive to gender-related issues, while also encouraging social responsibility and civic engagement among students.
During the academic year 2025–26, the committee actively organized and coordinated a wide spectrum of academic, social, cultural, and outreach activities focusing on gender awareness, health, safety, empowerment, environmental sustainability, and community welfare. Through strategic collaborations with governmental bodies, NGOs, and corporate partners, the committee extended its impact beyond the campus to the wider society. (Convenor—Prof. Richa Chowdhary)

Mission
• To sensitize students and staff on issues of gender equality, rights, and responsibilities.
• To promote women’s empowerment through education, skill development, health awareness, and safety initiatives.
• To create a secure and supportive campus free from discrimination and gender-based violence.
• To encourage community engagement and social responsibility through outreach programs.
• To align institutional initiatives with national priorities and government frameworks related to women and child development.
Key Initiatives & Activities (2025–26)
The committee organized a diverse range of programs focusing on health, safety, social responsibility, cultural awareness, and environmental sustainability, ensuring meaningful participation of students and faculty.
A. Workshops and Seminars
1. “Revisiting Gender” Workshop
A critical and thought-provoking workshop on the theme “Revisiting Gender in the Current General Scenario” was organized to examine the evolving understanding of gender in contemporary society. The session addressed gender roles, stereotypes, intersectionality, and the challenges faced in achieving true gender equality.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Kalyani, a renowned social activist and Director of Action India, who shared her extensive experience in grassroots advocacy and policy engagement. Her insights enabled students to connect theoretical perspectives with real-world gender issues, fostering critical thinking and empathy among participants.
2. “Empowered Voices” Health Workshop
In collaboration with Whisper, the committee organized a health awareness workshop titled “My Health, My Choice”. The session focused on menstrual hygiene, informed health choices, and breaking social taboos surrounding women’s health.
The workshop encouraged open dialogue, promoted body positivity, and empowered young women to take informed decisions regarding their personal well-being. It also aimed at normalizing conversations around menstrual health within academic spaces.
B. Social Responsibility & Community Outreach
1. Plastic Waste Management Program
Date: August 28, 2025
Collaborator: Bisleri (Bottles for Change Initiative)
A large-scale awareness program on “Plastic Waste Management & Wellbeing” was organized in collaboration with Bisleri, aligned with its Bottles for Change initiative. The program highlighted the relationship between environmental sustainability, public health, and responsible citizenship.
Students were sensitized to sustainable waste practices, segregation of plastic waste, and the importance of environmental stewardship, reinforcing the idea that gender responsibility and social responsibility are deeply interconnected.
2. Cloth Donation Campaign for NGO
Date: September 9, 2025
Beneficiary: Asha Kiran NGO
With the objective of fostering empathy, compassion, and social awareness, the committee organized a Cloth Donation Campaign for Asha Kiran NGO, which works for the welfare of underprivileged communities.
Students and faculty actively participated by donating clothes, thereby contributing to community welfare and reinforcing values of sharing and inclusivity. The initiative successfully bridged campus engagement with real-life social impact.
3. Veer Baal Diwas Celebration
Date: December 26, 2025
Time: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Organised by: Gender Sensitisation Committee (BRAC) in association with the Cultural Committee
Under the aegis of: Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), Government of India
The committee celebrated Veer Baal Diwas to honor the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of children in Indian history. The event aimed to instill values of bravery, patriotism, and moral strength among students.
Through cultural performances, discussions, and reflective activities, the program emphasized the role of children as the foundation of the nation’s future and aligned with national efforts led by the MWCD to promote child rights and empowerment.
C. Safety & Empowerment Initiatives
Self-Defence Training Program
Duration: October 8–October 18, 2025
Collaborator: Delhi Police (Special Unit for Women & Children)
Target Group: Women
Prioritizing safety and confidence-building, the committee organized a 10-day Self-Defense Training Program in collaboration with the Delhi Police. The training equipped participants with practical self-defense techniques, situational awareness, and strategies for personal safety.
The program significantly enhanced the physical confidence and mental preparedness of participants, reinforcing the importance of preventive safety education in empowering women and children.
The Gender Sensitization and Women Development Committee of BRA College successfully fulfilled its mandate for the academic year 2025–26 through a balanced approach of awareness-building, skill development, community outreach, and institutional collaboration. By partnering with organizations such as Bisleri, Whisper, Action India, Asha Kiran NGO, and the Delhi Police and working under the framework of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the committee expanded its reach from campus-level engagement to meaningful social impact. These initiatives collectively contributed to strengthening gender sensitivity, promoting women’s empowerment, encouraging environmental responsibility, and nurturing socially conscious citizens, in alignment with national priorities and institutional values.
